At that time I was only able to get a high end rebuilt Jasper 305 and it worked fine. I ran into a similar problem in like 1992/1993 when the camshaft in my 305 went bad in my 1984 Z28 around 93,000 miles. The IROC came out when I was in high school so I know it well. Some dealers claim the #8 in the 8th digit of the VIN position means V8. There are even unscrupulous car dealers trying to pass off 1989 V8 powered Camaro's as 5.7L IROC's or 5.0L IROC's as 5.7 Liters. There have been many 1989 RS Camaro's over the years cloned into IROC-Z's. The 8th digit of the VIN tells you what the car was originally equipped with.
